Thermal insulation is needed not only for pipelines, but also for industrial equipment: tanks, apparatus, gas ducts, boiler equipment. A separate task is anti-condensation insulation of cold lines, where it is important not to retain heat, but to prevent condensation from forming. Let’s look at both cases.
Thermal insulation of industrial equipment
Equipment insulation reduces heat loss, stabilizes the technological process and protects personnel from burns on hot surfaces. Isolate:
- Containers and reservoirs— tanks, heat accumulators, technological containers;
- Apparatuses and columns— heat exchangers, separators, reactors;
- Flues and air ducts— in ventilation, dust extraction and gas purification systems;
- Boiler equipment– boilers, smoke exhausters, collectors.
For equipment with complex shapes, shaped elements of the cover layer are made according to the drawings – this speeds up installation and ensures accurate geometry of the units.
Anti-condensation insulation of cold pipelines
On cold lines (refrigeration, air conditioning, process cold), the surface of the pipe is colder than the surrounding air. Because of this, condensation forms on it, and then corrosion, drips and freezing. Anti-condensation insulation solves this problem.
Materials for cold lines
Foamed rubber and closed-cell polyethylene are used – they almost do not absorb moisture and simultaneously serve as a vapor barrier. Key point –continuous vapor barrier layer and sealing all joints: if water vapor penetrates under the insulation, condensation will form under it.
Materials and cover layer
- hot equipment – mineral (basalt) wool in mats and slabs;
- cold lines – foam rubber/polyethylene with vapor barrier;
- cover layer – galvanized or stainless steel, foil, metal casings according to drawings.
